Sometimes you just need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but getting away is too complicated or you don’t have enough time. Chicago has plenty of options for residents to plan the ultimate staycation retreat, whether over a weekend or a short midweek jaunt. Staycations are the perfect way to catch up with friends or spend some one-on-one with your significant other. We’ve listed our top destinations to make your Chicago staycation magical.

With sweeping views of the city and chic modern interiors, Sofitel is the ultimate central Chicago retreat. This beautiful hotel is located close to some of the best shopping, dining, and sight-seeing in the city which eliminates the need to battle for parking.

Oak Street shopping is literally right outside the hotel, including luxury mainstays like Dolce & Gabbana and Buccellati. If you’re looking for a foodie experience, never fear: Oak Street isn’t all shopping. Fig & Olive offers its guests an incredibly high-end Mediterranean dining experience, including a fantastic wine cellar.

Brunch is one of our favorite parts of staycations and Yolk is at the top of our list. This upbeat breakfast and brunch chain serves some of the yummiest egg dishes in the city. Yolk is low-key, but don’t let its casual vibe throw you — you’d be hard-pressed to find a better breakfast.

One of the most popular spas in Chicago, The Peninsula Spa is a must-attend if you’re stressed or want deep relaxation. Housed in The Peninsula Chicago Hotel, this luxe spa is a true indulgence. Treatment range from full body, immersive experiences to a la carte services like pedicures and facials.

Garfield Park Conservatory is one of the largest conservatories in the states and is a stunning tribute to the vastness and variety of nature. There are eight distinct rooms within the facility, all temperature controlled and filled with lush plants, from greenery to flowers. During the warmer months, 12 acres of outdoor gardens are accessible for leisurely strolls, but winter visitors have more than enough to look at in the two acres inside the glass conservatory.

Bringing a little one along with? The Elizabeth Morse Genius Children’s Garden is a wonderful place for kids to explore and learn about the natural world in a comfortable, indoor environment. There are large displays that demonstrate plant growth plus a hydroponic plant pond.

Upstairs from the Michelin-star winning Longman & Eagle restaurant, the Longman & Eagle Inn is a sophisticated choice for staycationers looking for a little more privacy and quiet. With the proximity of the restaurant, guests are able to get the first pick of tables for dinner and brunch. There’s also plenty to do in the area, though sometimes it’s nice to just kick back and relax in your room. Rooms range in theme and price, but all are luxuriously appointed with designer linens and unique art and décor.

These five suggestions should be enough to get you started on planning your next Chicago staycation!
