WHAT DOES AN ALTERNATOR DO?
The starter and battery are responsible for ensuring that there is enough power to turn the engine over when you put the key into the ignition. However, the alternator is the part that keeps the headlights and radio on after the engine turns over.
It is also responsible for making sure that the power windows and power steering system does what it is supposed to. This component remains active whether the car is in motion or is idling at a stop light, and the alternator will recharge the battery while the vehicle is running.
If the car struggles to start, it may be because this item is loose or worn. Signs of a bad alternator include headlights that alternate between too dim and too bright while you’re driving. Alternatively, you may notice that the car struggles to start or supply power to the radio or other accessories.
